Perhaps he was so much discouraged as to be almost ready to despair. You know not how great may be your spiritual loss.
Thomas could not or would not credit the testimony of the other disciples when they said that they had seen the Lord. He demanded the testimony of his own senses, that he might see and feel; otherwise he would not be- lieve.
A week elapsed, and under similar circumstances our Lord suddenly stood in the midst, condescended to grant Thomas the evidence which he wanted, and with a Divine knowledge of his thoughts and feelings, said, Reach hither thy finger and behold My hands; and reach hither thy hand and thrust it into My side and be not faithless, but believing.
