the jet is more effective when applied to the upper surface of the screw-disc, rather than, as would seem natural, to the under side and the point of the pile. Why so, does not seem entirely clear. Applied to both under and upper surfaces would, no doubt, be advantageous. In this process there would seem to be no cause of trouble when the screw-disc was not over from 12 to 18 inches in diameter; but withdiscs from 3 to 6 feet in diam- eter it would be troublesome to hold a pile exactly vertical and in exact position, if this should be absolutely necessary, as in the case already mentioned.
