At the same time Minis- ters could not justly be blamed for the conse- HAMPSHIRE. 147 quences of that investigation, which was forced upon them by the arrival of the Queen. The rumours, which preceded her, obliged them to in- stitute the inquiry, in duty to the King and coun- try, and in justice to the Queen herself. [Violent hisses. } But, however the Meeting might differ from him as to the necessity of that inquiry, there could be but one opinion as to the leniency of the mode of trial, [hisses] and the fairness and impartia- lity of her judges.
