Her faith was dearer to her than life. But she was a stranger to bigotry. Her Christian love went out spontaneously towards all who bore her Saviour's image. Indeed, this would seem to be the reigning spirit in the several Institutions of which we have been speaking. For it is otherwise inexplicable how Boards representing so many different Churches, should go on by the half-century together, without feeling the breath of sec- tarian controversy. How beautifully does the Psalmist say of this sp...irit, "It is as the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion." Of Miss Latimer's prudence and wisdom, 34 • her ingenuousness and candor, her zeal and energy, no one can be ignorant who knew her at all. A stranger to duplicity, she always said just what she meant, and meant what she said. Her judgment was sound and discrimi- nating. She was careful in forming her opin- ions; and if at any time her decisions failed to command the assent of others, it was usually in cases where she was misled by her prover- bial kindness of heart.
