Why mourn that our friends, that our children are taken away from us when young? Although young, they may be better prepared to leave this world, and enter the world of spirits, than many who are suffered to continue to old age. We are not to estimate life, by the length to which it is sometimes protracted. " Honourable age," said a wise observer, " is not that which stand- eth in length of time, nor that is measured by num- ber of years. But wisdom is the grey hair unto man, and an unspotted l...ife is old age." However painful the affliction which parents feel, when promising children are taken from them, those virtues and good qualities, which render our children lovely and precious, while they are with us, forbid our indulging immoderate grief, when they are taken away from us. The virtues and good qualities, which are sometimes manifested by those who are young, are evidence, that, by the grace of God, they are pre- paired for higher employments, and nobler entertain- ments, than can be expected in this present evil world.
