And that the pilots up to March 1837, were not in the habit of going to sea ; and, since then, I have seen the New York and Jersey pilots seventy miles from Sandy Hook. I have no reason to know that any unusual /r complaint has been made by ship-masters or merchants, as to the pilots, for the last three years. " (Signed) JAMES BERGEN, Notary Public.
25 8. That the New Jersey pilots have been, at least, as competent and faithful in the discharge of their duties, since the law of 1837, as their competitors, we have abundant proof.
