Elias Lyman was chosen a delegate to the provincial congress, which met at Concord, on the 11th of October. A committee of correspondence for the District of 25 Southampton was appointed, consisting of Jonathan Judd, jr. Samuel Burt, EHas Lyman, Aaron Clark, Jonathan Clark, Timothy Clark, Samuel Pomeroy, Samuel Clap and Israel Sheldon. At another meeting, on the 12th of December, a committee of nine were elected " to see what they can get for the poor of Boston. " It was also voted " to raise t...hree pounds, lawful money, for some person to instruct the minute- men in learning the military art. " In 1775, Elias Lyman was again sent to the provincial Congress, which met at Cambridge. It was resolved to give the minute-men nine pence a time for six half days, in learning military exercises. Stephen Sheldon, Timothy Clark and John Lyman were ap- pointed a committee "to inspect and see that there are no goods brought into the town, since the first day of Decem- ber last, and sold contrary to the direction of the Conti- nental and Provincial Congresses ; and to see that no trader takes any advantage in selling the goods contrary to the ad- vice of the Congresses.
