I do not know, but presume, that this power was exercised at San Diego, Santa Barbara and Monterey, and hence the origin of the towns bearing those names, which at a later period come into view as such. At San Francisco however there is nothing, in the Archives or elsewhere yet discovered, to show that such a grant was ever made by the Captain of the Presidio.
