As to myself, I shrank a little bit when he told me that I might perhaps be asked to say a few words, because I at once felt aware of a certain con- stitutional deficiency which always interfered with my happiness whenever I had to speak to more than half a dozen people, but somehow or other I llghtheartedly got over it, and I gave myself to the happy perspective of the 9th of March, and as the time drew near I began to think about it, and I talked to my colleagues and told them that I really did not feel up to speaking, that I should only say a few words of congratulation to the Quartet and Mr.
