At the regular meeting of the Consistory, held March 6th in that year, this minute was adopted : "It having pleased Almighty God to remove by death on the 3d of January, 1S85, the Rev. Enoch Van Aken, the pastor emeritus of this church, 36 THE BLOOMINGDALE REFORMED CHURCH.
Resolved, That this Consistory desires to express its grateful sense of appreciation of his long and labo- rious lif
...e, nearly fifty years of which were passed in the service of this parish. His was one of the longest pastorates in the annals of the metropolitan pulpit, and one of the most chequered. By his prudent per- tinacity in temporal matters, and by his wisdom in spiritual interests, he stamped his individuality in- effaceably upon this church and neighborhood. Those who knew him in his prime, think of him as an earnest and sound expounder of the Gospel, and love to dwell upon his faithful pastoral oversight.
