However, if manure is spread on sloping land, runoff losses of all nutrients may be appreciable, especially if the soil is frozen.
Evidence suggests that the fertilizer nutrients, phosphorus and potassium, are as effective in manure as in mineral fertilizer; however, this is not true of the nitrogen in manure.
