A venerable layman, whose influence was deserv- edly great, being asked his opinio...n, observed, that he per- fectly recollected that the celebrated Commissary Garden always insisted on the administration of baptism in the Church, and that the relaxation of discipline which subse- quently look place, was to be ascribed to the introduction into the province of several clergymen no! remarkable foi their zeal. It ma\ be added, that the revolution inter- rupted the order of our churches, and when they wen re-organized, a degree of accommodation to the world was deemed necessan . It can never be proper to obligi a man of influence, or even a friend, at the expense of a regulation important to the prosperity of the Church.
