Our recollections are represented as " revived sensa- tions. " The statement might be allowed to pass in common conversation, or in loose literature, but can- not be accepted from a metaphysician. There may be a revival not merely of our sensations, but of our mental operations generally, of our thoughts, our emotions, — of our very recollections. And in every exercise of memory there is more than a re- vival of our experience.
