The Year Book for 1905, now in preparation, will be a great improvement upon that of 1904; it will have 100 plates instead of the 72 of last year, and will, no doubt, prove even more valuable than its predecessor as a means for making the work and methods of the School widely known throughout the country. The student pub- lishers have generously offered to expend all the profits accru- ing from the enterprise upon the department library. It is proposed first to increase the list of architectura...l publica- tions on file, and then to purchase such books as may be most needed from time to time to keep the library up to date in all departments. Valuable as is the Avery Li- brary for protracted and continuous study, it can never take the place of the departmental library whose books are, so to speak, at one's very elbows, to be referred to on a moment's notice, and which are intended for hard use — the harder the better. A number of volumes have been added the past year, out of the departmental funds, and have proved of the greatest service.
