Sir : — The Adjutant-General has to re|>ort that, in obedience to a further siippleinent, (approved March the seventeenth, eighteen hundred and fifty -two,) to the act entitled an act establish- ing a Militia System, the following (Schedule A,) is the annual return made to the Adjutant-General, of male white }>eTsons within the bounds of their respective divisions and brigades, between eighteen and forty-five years of age, liable ...t(i ]>erform military duty.
In time of peace, the schedules of the enrolled persons not being likely to vary materially within one or two years, it is most respectfully submitted, whether the period of the annual enroll- ment might not be profitably extended to three years.
The Adjutant-General has again earnestly to recommend that some fund should be provided for the encouragement and support of the volunteer companies. Their usefulness, their loss of time, and their actual expenditure, entitle them to it, as an act of common justice.
