21, 1917, by the resignation of Mr. Horace M. Brown, who had fulfilled the duties of this position most acceptably since his appointment, Sept. 1, 1913. Mr. Brown has accepted a posi- tion in the department of the State Auditor.
The position of steward, which became vacant Aug. 31, 1916, on the resignat...ion of Mr. Scott Whitcher, has been filled by the appointment of Mr. Adam D. Smith, a former supervisor, whose ability and faithful services to this hospital we are pleased to recognize by this promotion.
The Board directs attention to the urgent need of an appro- priation for the construction of a coal trestle to replace the present structure, which is now in an unsafe condition, and lim- ited in capacity. The recommendations, embodied in the super- intendent's report, for alterations and additions to the present plant, in order to relieve overcrowded conditions and to provide for such increases in admissions as may reasonably be expected, have our approval.
