51 55.33 per cent of the males are represented in 1902 as against 57.52 per cent in 1903. The representations of females in these classes are 13.36 per cent in 1902 and 14.01 per cent in 1903. On the other hand, in the lower wage classes, under $5 and $5 but under $6, 66.55 per cent of the young persons appear in 1902 and 65.09 per cent in 1903, while the propor- tions of males in these two classes are very small, amounting to 3.15 and 3.22 per cent, respectivel...y, in 1902, and 2.56 and 2.84 per cent, respectively, in 1903. Of the females, the largest proportions are found in the wage classes $6 but under $7 to $10 but under $12, 58.24 per cent of all the females in 1902 and 60.84 per cent in 1903 appearing in these classes.
No great variations are shown in either year, but the tendency is towards slightly larger percentages in the higher wage classes for 1903.
Distributing the average number of persons employed in 1903 into the different wage classes according to the percentages found in the two preceding tables, and multiplying by the rates per week, we secure the following estimates representing per- sons employed and wages paid in All Industries for one week : Classification oi Weekly Number of — Estimated Weekli Wages of— Wages.
