In sostanza il simbolo del gruppo, parte o partito che fu detto dottrinario, si riassunse in questo: che ac- cettando il fatto storico compiuto, cioè il rinnovamento degli ordinamenti dello Stato, e volere non volere, del diritto pubblico francese ; esso intendeva ragionarne e sodarne le basi per via di principi speculativi e di postulati giuridici, ma non conformi a quelli onde aveva preso le mosse la Rivoluzione del 1789, né tampoco dedotti in analogia.
