" The conferences between the plenipotentiaries, Gen. Don Jose Maria Canas and Don Maximo Jerez, took place in San Jose in Costa Eica. On April 15, 1858, the treaty was signed. For the sake of solemnity, and for the purpose of entering into another treaty of friendship, union, and alliance, which was happily concluded, President Don Juan Rafael Mora went over to Rivas, where he was received with the most perfect cordiality by General Martinez, the President of Nicaragua.
