Of muscles in general. — Muscular contraction : changes of form which result ; movements produced. Composition of muscles ; fleshy body and tendon ; aponeurosis. THE form of the body is produced by the muscles disposed upon the skeleton, their function being to move its several parts upon each other. The mus- cles are formed by peculiar tissue called muscular (issue or muscular fibre, which has the property of changing its form, namely, of contracting under the influence of nervous action in most cases controlled by the will.
