This was the triumph of the Orange party, but at the very moment signs of division appeared ; the Calvinists showed themselves aggressive and monopolized communal offices at Brussels, Ghent, and other towns, while many of the Catholics feared the ascendancy acquired by the Prince of Orange and were unable to forgive him for his religious tolerance.
