[This volume was issued in response to the demand for a cheaper and more popular issue of the poems of "B. V. " than was supplied in the complete edition of the "Poetical Works. " The book contains a repre- sentative selection from the poems of James Thomson ; and the reader who possesses it will have sufficient material for forming an estimate of the real value and significance of the author's poetical work. There is a brief "Preface" to the volume, written by the editor. ] Rosemary and Pansie
...s. The Author Bertram Dobell [Motto. ] 1 90 1. (Not for sale. ) 8vo, pp. Viii and 88.
[Of this volume only seventy-five copies were printed for private circulation. A good many copies were presented to eminent literary men, most of whom, in acknowledging the receipt of the volume, wrote very kind and encouraging letters to the author. No doubt (as usually happens with a first volume of verse) the book contains MiiiL> which the author does not now regard so favourably as he did when he printed them : but since he reprinted most of the contents of the volume four years later, it is to be concluded that he is not altogether ashamed of his juvenilia.
