CHAPTER XLIV.

ACTIVE preparations were now being made for Violet's wedding, and during the time, Laura and Lucy were frequently at Mrs. Brandon's ; but the former seemed to enter with but small zest into the animated arrangements, and was evidently living under a pressure too great both for her spirits and her strength. Henry, however, saw pro- per to allude to the unpleasant circumstances but seldom, as he was well satisfied that no favorable change in affairs was going on.
