LARVA. On Lolium perenne, and other Grasses. It is a night-feeder, and is obtained by searching at dusk with a lantern ; in the day time it hides under stones.
PUPA. Not suspended ; it rests in a slight hollow in the ground.
OBSERVATION. This species is the largest and most striking of the family ; it is also one of the largest European butterflies.
