In the centre gabled panel, the dead Christ upright in the tomb ; the Cross behind. Left panel, the Virgin kneeling at a desk with open book, in a walled court on to which opens (left) a door, showing within a bed with red coverlet. To the right, the Dove, emitting rays and a tongue of fire (raised gilt). Right panel, the Angel Gabriel (embossed gilt wings, lily in left hand, right hand raised) kneeling in walled court facing an open door. Predella (beginning from the left) : — (i.) Agony in th...e Garden. Undulating wooded landscape.
(2.) Crucifixion. Mary and John on either side of the Cross, flanked by two mounted soldiers. Wooded hills in background. (3.) Flagellation. In a room with central pillar supporting the ceiling, to which Christ is tied. Two executioners with scourges. (4.) Resurrection. Christ, holding the cross-flag, and blessing with right hand, steps out of the tomb. Rocks behind, and distant landscape at the sides. Sleeping soldiers in front.
There are no traces of re-painting, but the surface has been destroyed in many places.
