394. The Duke of Exeter.
AETIST TJNKNOWX.
Thi-ee-quarter face on a gold background ; long brown hair ; black cap and dress. No. 101 in Cartwright's Catalogue, " Ye Earle of Exitors head: ye ground of it gould. £5." Panel: 1 ft. 2 in. X 11 in.
This portrait, however, cannot be that of any Earl of Exeter, the first who bore this title being Thomas Cecil, cr. in 1605, a date undoubtedly much too late for the picture. It is pro- bably a portrait of Henry Holland, last Duke of Exeter, who died 1473.
