In 1949, a firm of planning engineers was employed to prepare a long range plan for the development of the park into a desirable recreation area. The facilities pro- posed to be installed were: A number of pic...nic areas with tables and fireplaces, a larger shelter house and cabin, a tots' playground with proper amusement devices, a coun- cil-ring for use on teen-age groups and their instructors, tennis courts, F. F. A and 1-H pavilion and arena, a light- ed baseball field, sufficient parking areas, and others that were then under consideration. The entire cost of the in- stallation and lighting of the baseball diamond was un- derwritten by the local post of the American Legion and construction was immediately begun and later completed.
