Blake, " as leading merchants from before the year 1840, extending through two decades until the removal of Grinfill Blake to Phila- delphia, sometime in the fort...ies, and the subsequent removal of Francis Blake to Portland in 1855.
The advent of the Blakes to Harrison, their participa- tion in the business, political, religious, and social interests of our people, deserve particular notice in this connection. I have the esteemed privilege to give a brief account of the origin, and the historic antecedents of this distinguished family.
GRINFILL BLAKE, son of Samuel Blake (b. In Taun- ton, Mass. , 1747) and Abigail (Rickard) Blake, was born in Turner, Me. , July 27, 1781.
