The re- moval of a person holding office from one ward to another shall not create a vacancy in such office; nor shall a change of ward boun- daries create a vacancy in any office.

The mayor, aldermen and members of the common council, shall, before entering upon their offices, be sworn to the faithful performance of their respective duties; and for that pur- pose shall meet in convention on the first Monday in January in each year at ten of the clock in the forenoon, when such oath
... may be administered to the mayor-elect by any judge of any court of record in the commonwealth, or by any justice of the peace, and to the aldermen elect and common councilmen elect by the mayor, he being first sworn as aforesaid, or by any justice of the peace. A certificate that such oath has been taken shall be entered in the journals of the board of aldermen and of the common council by their respective clerks. If the mayor or any one or more of the aldermen or common councilmen shall not be present on the first Monday in January to take the oath required of them, the same may be administered to the mayor or aldermen at any meeting of the board of aldermen, and to the common councilmen at any meet- ing of the common council, thereafter, before entering upon office.
