' That the ministers in districts might be permitted to come together 20 for mutual benefit.' (Indignantly refused.) 'That pious straitened preachers in terror of offending God by idolatry, and useful to human souls, might not be cast out of their pa- rishes for genuflexions, white surplices, and such like, but al- lowed some Christian liberty in mere external things.' His majesty told them to conform or he would hurry them out of the country.
