The removal to Brook Farm, (distant seven miles,) took place on December 23d last, at which time there were eleven on the sick list. The present number is twenty-one.
I have been officially informed, gentlemen, that at your last meeting I was unanimously rechosen for the ensuing year.
With suitable acknowledgments... for your repeated and continued partiality, I feel constrained to ask permission to retire from the office I have so long held, at such time as may please you to appoint a successor.
When, two years since, I had resolved to resign, your unanimous vote and unexpected liberality, together with the complimentary suggestions of your late lamented chairman, induced me to forego my own purposes and to continue in your service. Subsequently, while in con- stant expectation of the removal of the establishment, I consented to remain until that event should take place.
