One day as its sad priestess stood gazing across the gloomy waves that made her prison, with secret horror was she brought face to face with victims for the shrine. A band of herdsmen exultingly dragged before her two youths they had caught lurking about the temple, of foreign speech and dress, and giving themselves out for castaway mariners.
