Since the period when my attention wbs directed to this question, I have frequentiy seen cases of pericarditis coincident vrith the exacerbations of arthropatiiies in those attacked vnth chronic rheumatism. Thus, the in- stances I havjB just recorded are in perfect accord with my own personal observation& To sum up, then, endocarditis and pericarditis unquestionably occur in some cases of chronic articular rheumatism ; and these conditions there exhibit the same characteristics as when present ...in acute rheumatism. They occur preferably during the p^od of exacerbation of the disease, and when it somewhat approximates, as it were, the acute form. Finally, these two diseases are, in general, of a less serious nature when they develop during a chronic articular rheumatism.
