Of these con- stituents, shell is the most abundant, the average mound containing over fifty-two per cent by weight. Then follow residue with nearly twenty-eight per cent, ash with over twelve per cent, rock with over seven per cent, and charcoal, fish remains, and other vertebrate remains with less than one per cent combined.
