Dr. Talcott Williams has said seven-eighths of North America lies, as far as latitude goes, in the Temperate Zone, and seven-eighths of South America in the Tropical. Mexico lies in large part in the tropics, but most of Mexico is not tropical. As contrasted with the warmth of the Gulf Stream of North America, we have the Humboldt current almost up to the border of Ecuador, which gives a temperate and equable climate to the whole west coast.
