MEETING OF THE FRIENDS OF AFRICAN CIVILIZATION, In New York, March 18, 1861.
At a meeting of g...entlemen of New York and Brooklyn, held in the Bible House, March 18th, 1861, for the purpose of listening to statements in relation to the object and operations of Tue African Civilization Society, Mr. William E. Dodge was called to the Chair, and Mr. William C. Gilman acted as Secretary.
After a full consideration of matters presented, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted.
Resolved, That we have heard with deep interest the proposal of the Rev. Henry Highland Garnet, the able and esteemed Pastor of the Prince Street Church, in this city, to go out with a select company to Yoruba, Africa, for the purpose of effecting a settlement there, under the auspices and in accordance with the general plan of the African Civilization Society.
