Not satisfied with equipping and maintaining in good order this rescuing fleet, the Society distributes rewards to all those who have distin- guished themselves by their noble conduct. The result is that these rewards — the gold medal more especially — are only granted in extraordinary cases, and for services which really arouse admiration.
