After considerable trials and many rehearsals, it was finally decided that she should make her first bow to the public as Juliet. In her interesting memoirs, she has left a brief description of her premier appearance.
' The theatre, ' she writes, ' was crowded with fashionable spectators ; the green-room and or- chestra (where Mr. Garrick sat during the night) were thronged with critics.
