It is in the same eternal light that Dante views the purpose of philosophy in its relation towards theology ; for philosophy is " a loving use of that wisdom, the principle of which is in God. Therefore philosophy in its essence is divine, and perfectly united as in everlasting wedlock with the divinity, but in other intelligences lesser-wise.
