This Desert Diamond Rattlesnake was one such. While crawling on hands and feet through a mesquite thicket near India, we heard the buzz of the snake, only two or three feet away. Sidewinder Rattlesnake (Illustration 55). After the Chuckwalla, the Sidewinder is the desert's most famous member of legend and story. There are "Sidewinder Springs" and "Side-winder Wells" on the detailed desert maps.
