What reading level is Echoes of Old Cumberland Poems And Translations book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

It should be said that in Cumberland there are vari- ations of speech, coming in for the most part, imperceptibly, which at the extremities of the county amount to a considerable difference of sound and accent ; as in the word home, which at the Scottish border is hame, in the Carlisle district helime^ as written by Miss Blamirc, in the country 136 DIALECT.
round Penrith hyam, and bordering Lancashire, yam. Of one change the locaHty is strictly defined : it is often remarked by country people t
...hat " It is mine an' thine at Lazonby, but meyne an' theyne at Kirkoswald. " The two villages are on opposite banks of the Eden, not much more than a mile apart. Below this the definite article, which is abbreviated through upper and central Cumber- land, and all over Westmorland, as in Yorkshire, comes into more general use, and the speech, northwards, grows more musical. These changes are quite in accordance with others of place and field-names thereabouts. In one half the county, words may be heard which are hardly kno^vn in the other; and we have some for which there is no single English equivalent.
