Clear of fractions. Thus from (1) 42ic-2y + 10 = 28a:-2i; .-. \4x-2y =-^\ (3).
From (2) 9?/ + 12 - lOx + 25 = 15?/ ; .-. 10x + 6y = 37 (4).
Eliminating y from (3) and (4), we find that ^ _ _ 14 X — ...— Y3 .
Eliminating x from (3) and (4) , we find that Note. Sometimes, as in the present instance, the value of the second unknown is more easily found by elimination than by substi- tuting the value of the unknown already found.
