Small quantities of potassium iodate, KI0 3, correspond- ing to potassium chlorate, KC10 3, are contained in the sodium nitrate deposits of Chili (p. 116). The preparation of iodine from this source has become of great importance and threatens soon to displace altogether the production of iodine from sea-weed.
