The eye never wearies in admiration of her marvellous beauty. To a careless observer, who, in tlie love of tlie beautiful, forgets the useful, the rough, unwieldy anchor, and the huge, bulky chain, may seem a deformity. So, in times of peace, the grace- ful, polished mind, trained and fniislied in the schools, may guide the ship of State over the sunny sea; and the gallant bark, under the gentle hand, skim, like sea-bird, the rippling wave.
