23 What an insult this was to his majesty, and inde- pendent chief of a powerful nation, should come at the beck and call of his neighbors whenever they pleased to have him do it. Besides, did not Philip do as he agreed at Taunton, that is in case there was more diffi- culty, they were to leave it to Massachusetts, to be set- tled there in the high council, and both parties were to abide by their decision ; but did the pilgrims wait ?
