This is because it contains the eastern slope of the mountain range that separates the two countries. To the east and south of these mountains the country is covered with low hills and dotted with numerous lakes formed by the Ice Sheet. In the central part of the country lakes appear in almost every direction. The southern part is a region of low and level land.
