BRANDAN'S ISLAND DON FERNANDO would have started on another cruise, but he had no money. Finally, he was able to sail as far as the Canary Islands. They told him that this mysterious island had appeared to them many times ; but when they went in search of it there was nothing to be seen. Strange to say, it was only when the weat...her was very clear that they could catch a glimpse of it.
There were many stories told of this mysterious island, which received its name from St. Brandan, who had gone there with some of his followers, many hundred years before, but never had re- turned.
It was said that they had found a giant buried on the island, whom they brought to life. They talked to him about the people who had lived 88 FAMOUS LEGENDS there. When St. Brandan found the giant will- ing and pleased to listen, he taught him something of the Christian religion.
