The Committee called upon Mr. Wm. R. Hagerty. the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, to ascertain if there had been an ordinance passed providing for the extra employees above men- tioned. He informed us that he had no record of it, but was under the impression that prior to the great catastrophe in 1906, there was an ordinance adopted by the Supervisors giving the Coroner this additional help, bnt those records were destroyed. There is nothing on record at the office of the Board of Supervisor...s to show that there is such an ordinance.
There is crying need for a night watchman and janitor to take care of this office at night, when the night deputies are called away on a case, as under the present system they have to lock up the office and leave it alone for hours at a time, and other calls might (and do) come in, that cannot be even answered until their return, and as a janitor is badly needed to keep this two-story building" clean, he could do the work at night and act as a watchman also 28 at the cost of the City of not more than §75 per month.
