" Ah, hapless Nymph ! could tears restore, '' How much, how freely should they pour ! *' Then chang'd to waters shalt thou go, ** To fertilize where'er they flow; " And often waning, by their side, " Shall our salt tears augment their tide : *' Transform'd X. O fish thy lambs of snow, " Thou still shalt feed, thou still shalt know : " And when great Thames, a Monarch's tide, " Receives thee trembling to his side, ** Thou long shalt be a favourite bride : " Fond he shall prove, if not too true, " For thou shalt be for ever new.
