He gave a spectacular speech to the students, and whoever else was there, on the subject of the war, and other things in the economy, and the national interest. He got as close as possible to announcing for the presidency there. I said to him afterwards, "Gene, how could you do this to me!" He all but announced his candidacy. It was a huge audience! And people stamping in the aisles for him it was a spectacular turn-on event. We went on from there to the student union, or whatever it is, and answered questions for awhile, mostly dealing with the war.
